Peng Newman is happy to confirm that the £708 raised at Tango on The Thames milonga “A Tribute to Tony” in memory of the late, great Tony Walker has made possible two significant donations to the charities it was thought Tony would favour:
THE BARTS CHARITY, who: “fund extraordinary healthcare for 2.5m people in east London, and beyond. Working alongside the Barts Health group of hospitals and QMUL’s School of Medicine and Dentistry we fund world-leading research, state-of-the-art equipment and innovative healthcare projects which go above and beyond what the NHS can provide.”
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL who: “work to protect women, men and children wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied…Amnesty International is the world’s largest grassroots human rights organisation. We investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilise the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world.”
Thank you to everyone who made these donations possible as a mark of the respect for Tony and a token of the affection in which he was held.
Both donations have now been confirmed:
Dear Mrs Newman,
It was wonderful to speak to you last week and hear about the fundraising by Tango on the Thames in memory of Tony Walker.
Thank you for raising a fantastic £354 for Barts Charity. We really appreciate your support and will use your donation to help deliver extraordinary healthcare across the hospitals of Barts NHS Trust. From research that could lead to life-saving treatments to toys and games that will make hospital more interesting for our youngest patients, your donation will do a lot for our patients, families, staff and communities. Thank you for giving your time to organising an event in Tony’s memory, I hope you made some happy memories following his loss.
With warmest wishes to you and everyone involved with Tango on the Thames,

Together, our efforts have helped protect thousands of people at risk. Amnesty’s broader campaigning has led to international agreements to ban torture, set up the International Criminal Court and work towards an international arms trade treaty. Thank you once again. This gift enables Amnesty to continue our work in monitoring and researching human rights situations around the world and disclosing human rights abuses accurately, quickly and persistently.
